A dog age calculator converts your dog's birth date into its age in years and months, and into an equivalent human age. Dogs age faster than humans, especially early on: the first dog year is often compared to about 15 human years, the second to about 9 more, and each year after that to about 5 human years (dogs typically age a bit faster in middle and senior years than cats). This tool helps you understand your dog's life stage and care needs.
The calculator uses a common formula: the first year of a dog's life is roughly equal to 15 human years, the second year adds about 9 human years (24 total), and each additional dog year adds about 5 human years. So a 5-year-old dog is approximately 39 in "human years" (compared to about 36 for a cat of the same age, since dogs tend to age a bit faster in middle age).
This is an approximation. Breed, size, health, and lifestyle can affect how a dog ages; the result is for general reference only.
